Refuel your marriage

I received an email from a marriage ministry about 3 ways to keep marriage fueled.

1. Start your day in the presence of God.  Having a spiritual practice you do early in the morning before starting your day helps remind you of your connection to the Creator and to your beloved. The gifts of patience, kindness, joy, peace, etc. have been extended to us by God and what better person to pass them on to.

2. Meet your spouse's needs.  Outside of sex and fun, marriage can get dull and just go through the motions.  Spending time together regularly such as short walks, small talk, and being in one another's company make marriage meaningful. Also taking time away for date nights and mini vacations can keep the bond intact and allow time to do marital checkups or check-ins.  Keep it light and enjoy the moment or else the check-ins can turn your date night into a less than enjoyable experience.

3. Having good friends in our lives who support us is paramount.  Spending time with friends can fuel our individual engines as well as couple engine.  Our friends add to us by encouraging and uplifting us.  Being surrounded by good friends are like pillars on a building that hold up the foundation.

I hope that these 3 tips have given you some fuel to fill up your marriage tank.

Marriage mentoring series

Hello readers,

I was asked about the title of my blog.  I want to clear up any confusion.  Weddings with Yvette is the title of the blog and previously had a Facebook page bearing the same name. It initially featured wedding services only since I am a wedding officiant.  After the wedding then comes the work of marriage.  Which can be fun by the way. ☺☺

The blog NOW features other things such as articles, motivation and all things marriage related.  I am a guest blogger for Weddingstrends as well. To read some of the articles, click here .

Lastly, you will see product offers here for marriage material such as links to books and other sites that are suggested if looking for marital support. There are video and audio recordings periodically.   The 30 day marriage mentoring series including a workbook will be available September 1, 2017.

I look forward to serving you.

Thank you

Special message: What is love?

The topic of dating and love came up tonight in our home.  As we were discussing various viewpoints, movies and books, my husband was inspired to share this message on love.

Top 10 Marriage books

When it comes to the topic of marriage there are many viewpoints and advice to be offered.  Over the years I have added to my home library books on the topic of marriage and I have pulled out my top nine and included mine in the list.  This list by no means is exhaustive but I wanted to share with you some author's books that I read, enjoyed and put their advice into practice.  One of them even wrote me a reply back from an email I sent.  Here is the list:
If you are in a crosscultural marriage or know someone that is, the Marriage Journal would make a great gift.  To order an ebook go to Marriage Journal

Marriage tips

My story

Born in the downriver area of Detroit, I knew I was destined for something great.  I knew I had a gift for writing or expressing myself through writing stories and poetry.  That came full circle for me ten years after dropping out of college at my first attempt.

Fast forward some years later into adulthood I was faced with being a divorcee with three sons to raise.  It was not easy at all.  Consistent local support was hard to come by and my family supported me emotionally and financially long distance.  Still I did not want to give up on love.

After a few attempts at it, I failed miserably.  I know now that I was not equipped with information that would help me make better choices in love relationships.  I was not going to repeat those lessons anymore.  They were too costly.

Today I am happier than ever.  My dream of writing and helping others through inspirational writing and coaching is now a dream come true. I have a healthy and happy marriage full of joy and commitment.  I share that love and stories in the newsletter with subscribers click here.  And as a crosscultural marriage and relationship coach I want to celebrate your story, your marriage.  We know what works for each of us and I support you by working with your strengths and help you enhance your marriage to be all that it can be.

Many blessings,

Did you know that...?

According to the U.S.  Census, in 2010, there were 5.4 million interracial or interethnic married-couple households.  The majority of couples live on the west coast of the United States. I wonder how much that number has increased or decreased recently.  With the next census coming up in a few years it will be interesting to find out the new stats. For now you can check out more on the stats from 2010 here: Interracial marriage statistics .
